How much mulch do I need?

Aim for 2–3 inches. Less than 2 inches lets weeds through; more than 3–4 inches can suffocate roots and hold too much moisture against stems.
How many bags in a cubic yard?
One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet, so about 13–14 of the common 2 ft³ bags, or 9 of the 3 ft³ bags.
