Square or triangular spacing?

Triangular (offset rows) packs roughly 15% more plants into the same area and gives fuller coverage, which is great for groundcovers and flower beds.

What spacing should I use?

Use the mature spread on the plant tag. Groundcovers might be 8–12 inches apart, shrubs several feet — spacing too tightly wastes plants and invites disease.
